Sunflower Seeds Mix
Plant our Sunflower seeds mix and your garden will become the centre of attention in your neighbourhood. Not only will your neighbours love seeing them every time they go past, but so will the bees, butterflies and other pollinating insects that they attract!
As the name implies, the Sunflower Seeds Mix is made up of six different varieties of Sunflower seeds. Each pack may include:
Mammoth Grey Stripe Sunflower
This sunflower has a giant yellow flower head measuring 60cm wide. It grow on a tall stalk that can reach 1.8 metres high! The large seeds are characterised by their grey stripes. It’s a great choice for producing large seeds and decorative heads.
Sunforest Sunflower
Looking to create a forest of sunflowers? This variety is your best bet. Sunforest sunflowers can grow between 3-4.5 metres tall. When planting, leave a metre of space between the seeds so that the roots have plenty of space to grow.
American Giant Sunflower
American Giants are the most popular variety of sunflowers that are used in growing competitions. These beauties can grow up to 4.5 metres in height, and the flower faces are 30cm wide. They grow on stems that are thick and sturdy, which is necessary to support the sunflower’s heavy head.
Giant Russian Sunflower
The height of Russian Mammoth sunflowers ranges from approximately 2.7 metres to 3.6 metres in height. These sunflowers are popular with pollinators insects such as bees and butterflies, and also birds and other small animals who like to snack their seeds.
Suntastic Yellow Sunflower
Suntastic Yellow sunflowers can grow to about 50c tall, and have bright yellow petals and dark brown centres. They love to grow in packs so you can expect to see 5 to 8 flower faces blooming from each stem.
Sunflower Sunbird
Sunflower Sunbird is a large, yellow-flowered, heirloom Sunflower variety. It’s known for producing large numbers of good quality seeds that are suitable for eating or poultry forage.
Each pack contains a random mix of 12 seeds.
Growing notes:
- Choose a sunny spot in your garden where the sunflowers can receive at least 6-8 hours of sunlight daily
- Prepare the soil by loosening it and adding compost for nutrition
- Plant the seeds about 3cm deep, with a spacing of 15cm between each seed
- Water the soil gently, keeping it consistently moist but not waterlogged
- Watch as the sprouts emerge within a week or two. As they grow, thin them to provide ample space for each sunflower to flourish
