Ping Tung Eggplant , also known as Ping Tung Long Eggplant, is a popular heirloom variety of Asian eggplant.

It originated in Pingtung, a county in Taiwan, and has gained popularity for its unique appearance and excellent taste.

They have a vibrant smooth and shiny skin that turns purple as it is exposed to the sun. The flesh of the eggplant is tender and creamy white, with a mild, slightly sweet flavour.

These eggplants are long and slender, typically measuring 20-25cm in length.  Productive plants product up to 20 fruits each.

Growing instructions:

  • Plant in full sun in a moist, well draining soil
  • They can grow tall, plants are sturdy and bushy
  • Will tolerate wet or dry conditions, and extreme heat, but can be sensitive to cold weather
  • Sow direct in soil, or raise as seedling in Spring
  • Plant 5mm depth and 80cm apart
  • Germinates in 7-14 days
  • Matures in 70 days
